What does scicommsoc Do?

Science is one of our most powerful ways of understanding the world, but it often has difficulties in explaining itself to the general public. However, as we see specifically in moments of crisis – like climate change, pandemics, or geopolitical instability – scientific knowledge needs to become part of public debate and personal choices. Hence, every student, regardless of study programme or educational background, can contribute positively to society by learning how to engage the public with (their own) science. Imperial’s research is not only cutting-edge but also addresses pressing questions relevant to society. Effective science communication improves trust and mutual understanding, and amplifies that research’s impact on people, thereby truly achieving science for humanity.

Such science communication can take many forms. From traditional science reporting, podcasting, museums, policy, to social media content creation, immersive experiences, public engagement and opening up the process of science itself (open science).
